Discovering Your Niche'
How does one know when they've discovered their niche'? Recently I've had the opportunity to coach a middle school teacher. We are working on lesson plans for the fall, and how to use "reading and writing workshop" as the vehicle to disseminate the curriculum. Along with my coachee, I've again discovered the love of teaching and learning! We laugh and share and it's through those warm moments - a genuine connection is formed - a wonderful bond. Trust is enabled and suddenly the boundaries are limitless. Time passes by so quickly during a session - it's almost as if we slipped into a time capsule and we're oblivious to everything around us. Training is awesome, but there's nothing like that warm personal contact with another human being - nothing like the feeling of making a difference in someone's life. To find your niche' is sort of like finding a new sense of freedom; a new lease on life. Somehow I think I've discovered my niche'. How about you - what's yours?

I agree. How lovely. The greatest gift a person can give is the gift of time and sharing knowledge with others. Good going Cheryl!
ReplyDeletei'm a bit uncomfortable settling on a niche, i mean, what if that really isn't what you 'were meant to do' rather only something that appears that way? if its a good thing, i say go with it and don't worry about if it is the end all be all of your professional life or just something to enjoy until your true niche appears. anyone have a niche compass? send it to 2NW04d.
ReplyDeleteLOL Dan! Well, a niche is "temporary". Folks I'm acquainted with know I've had 5 careers already; commercial design, CAD drafting, real estate, residential interior sales, and now education! I monitored and adjusted along the way to accomodate my family and because I consider myself a "little out of the box" I tend to have a screaming desire for change from time to time. I don't think any of us can "settle" on our laurels, but it is quite enlightening to find a turquoise pebble in the sand. Maybe we could create a "niche blog" ??
